If a woman had been in charge of the state Republican Committee meeting, Susan Molinari would have had a shorter podium.

As it was, the Republican congresswoman couldn't see over the microphones that had been adjusted for her taller male colleagues.

"You can have no pride as a short woman in politics," she said Friday afternoon as she climbed on a stack of telephone books to begin her speech.

The incident illustrates Molinari's attitude about her party: It's a great place for women, but it could use a few adjustments.
