Timeline of the life of Australian country music legend Smoky Dawson:



* March 19, 1913 - Smoky Dawson born Herbert Henry Dawson in Collingwood, Melbourne.

* 1934 - Began his musical career when he formed a western group.

* 1941 - Recorded his first album.

* 1944 - Married Dot (born Florence Cheers).

* 1951 - Moved to the United States where he got a contract with Acuff Rose and performed
at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

* 1952 - After returning to Australia, Dawson launched The Smoky Dawson Radio Show,
which stayed on air for 10 years.

* 1978 - Entered into the Country Music Roll of Renown.

* 1983 - Received an MBE for services to country music.

* 1999 - Made a Member of the Order of Australia.

* 2005 - Inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

* 2007 - Made his last trip to the Tamworth Country Music Festival and was immortalised
at the Galaxy of Stars wax museum.

* February 13, 2008 - Died in Sydney aged 94.
