NEWTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 1998--theglobe.com (http://www.theglobe.com), celebrating its 3rd year anniversary as the premiere online community, today began offering Things, free dynamic multimedia experiences for the Web, to its 1.5 million members and personal homepage publishers.
Things are the first form of multimedia that can be easily created, collected and shared on the Internet. With Things, personal homepage publishers can add fun and interactive content to their Web sites without requiring knowledge of complex programming.
As part of the agreement, theglobe.com's Homebuilders have access to more than 250 multimedia files, information on the use and creation of Things, and a trial version of Parable's ThingMaker(TM) 1.0, an easy-to-learn, drag-and-drop multimedia authoring tool used to create and modify Things. In addition, theglobe.com hosts a special area called Homebuilder Things, where Homebuilders may exhibit the use of Things on their pages or Things they create with Parable's ThingMaker software.
"theglobe.com's organically created community means that our members are among the most active and creative homepage publishers on the Web," stated Stephan Paternot, president, theglobe.com. "Things cater to the general consumer user found at our site by allowing even those with novice capabilities to develop innovative and original web sites."
In addition to theglobe.com, Things are offered for the taking at ThingWorld(TM) (http://www.thingworld.com), Parable's multimedia marketplace and distribution hub. ThingMaker is available for $99.00 at ThingWorld and major online distributors such as BuyDirect.com and Software.net.
"With Things, the static personal homepage can quickly and easily become a fun, interactive experience that publishers and viewers truly enjoy," said Eric Bedell, president and CEO of Parable. "By incorporating Things into their online offerings, theglobe.com expands their services available to homebuilders and provides them with the tools and content they need to take their publishing abilities to the next level."
